Upper & Lower Dougani

Dougani is located a few kilometres away from Argalasti and overlooks the iconic seaside village of Kalamos which is less than 2 kilometres away.

This grove is at an altitude of about 70 meters above sea level with West orientation and a moderate slope. The soil consistency is Clay loam and its pH 7,5 (slightly alcalic) which makes it perfect for olive tree cutlivation. It covers a surface of 0,35 hectars and has about 50 trees. It is owned by our family enough in order not remember exactly when.

Cultivars

Both plots only have the local Amfissis variety. The upper one is bigger and it has an iconic huge olive tree which is at least 100 years old.

Recent history

This plot is actually, these plots, as it consists of two smaller ones close to each other. The upper one is bigger while the lower part is smaller and also has the ruins of an old stone house that our ancestors used for home during the harvest period since there were no means of transport to move every day. This one has some citrus trees and there was a small spring in there as well.

Future plans

What we would like to achieve in this orchad is to restore the old building in order to host some seminars and even promote agrotourism.

Olive oil characteristics

The extra virgin olive oil that we get with early harvest from this specific plot has its own character. It has a medium fruity flavor with a light delicate bitterness and spiciness. Other than the characteristic variety's aromas of green tomato leaves and almond it has very delicate banana aromas.
