Ftelia

Ftelia is close to Argalasti village and is one of the newest plot additions to our groves.

This grove is at an altitude of 240 meters above sea level with Southwest orientation and a slight slope. The soil consistency is Clay loam and its pH is 6,9 (neutral) which makes it perfect for olive tree cutlivation. It covers a surface of 1,5 hectars and has about 170 old and 100 young trees. It is owned by our family since 2017.

Cultivars

Recent history

The trees were exhausted from the previous owners cultivation techniques and they had a lot of tumors on their branches. Our family with mild cultivation techiques and respect to the trees have already brought them into much better shape whilst they have already been characterized as organic cultivation trees after a trial period of 4 years. Due to the low density plantation of the olive trees, in 2020,we decided to plant extra wild olive trees.

Future plans

The young trees planted are wild olive plants which were collected from wild forests in the area in order to increase the biodivercity, to enchance the olives pollination and fuel our new project to produce an olive oil only from olives of wild type. Furthmore we intend to plant more wild olive plants in order to increase the future yield of wild olives.

Olive oil characteristics

The extra virgin olive oil that we get with early harvest from this plot has its own character. It has a medium fruity flavor with delicate bitterness and spiciness. At the same time other than the characteristic variety's aromas of green tomato leaves and almond someone can  find out radicchio aromas and a quite long chili-like spicy aftertaste.
